Early Life and Education
Jagdish Natwarlal Bhagwati (born July 26, 1934)is an Indian economist and Professor of Economics and Law at Columbia University.
Bhagwati hails from a Gujarati family in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics from St. John's College, Cambridge in 1956. He then pursued a doctorate in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which he received in 1967.
Academic Career
After earning his doctorate, Bhagwati joined the faculty of MIT as an economics professor and remained there from 1968 to 1980.
